Earth piece exists somewhere between architecture and landscape; tradition and modernity. Its wall like and uncompromising abstract form makes connections with the adjacent Modernist Architecture. While its construction utilising rammed earth with the local vernacular building tradition of wattle and daub creates a dialogue with the past in an attempt at reconciliation. The work is also influenced by the surrounding coastline of steep cliffs and a countryside scattered with ancient burial sites and standing stones.
