SCULPTURE  Many of the works illustrated use as their starting point the body, particularly the torso. I was interested in investigating how I could combine aspects of my previous work with some of the traditional methodologies associated with figurative sculpture. I was also curious to discover whether I could contribute anything new to what historically had been a subject the language of sculpture seemed particularly well suited too. In all of the work illustrated here the body is represented more like an abstracted object, or generic sign. This is because I was interested in a 3 dimensional representation of the body that secures its own presence as a self referential object and communicates its meaning and identity without relying on a mimetic effect.
