Tintotem Parade Series 4- Tasara
Series 4 of Tintotem Parade are sculptures made of traditional Indian cooking pots, that are still commonly used in India today. They are all related thematically and collectively called Tasara as they were all made while attending 3 Artists Residencies at Tasara Art & Weaving Centre in Kerala, India between 2024-2026. It celebrates the central place cooking, and food plays in Indian cultural and domestic life. The sculpture’s are intended to honour Indian culinary skills and commemorates the often ritualised care and attention devoted to cooking traditionally carried out by women in the householder generations. The form of the sculpture references traditional Hindu temple architecture, Buddhist Stupa’s and ritual vessels routinely used in religious ceremonies. The vibrant colour is emphasised to represent how in India it is welcomed as a gift to empower and release spiritual energy. The juxtaposition of the quotidian with the mystical is used to invoke how in India, everyday domestic life in the home is often infused with the spiritual.
